World No. 23 Coco Gauff is one of the most exciting youngsters on the Tour and despite being in her third full season after a sensational breakthrough season in 2019, the American just celebrated her 18th birthday in March 2022. Like the majority of the Tour, Coco is also currently playing at the 2022 French Open and has matched her best result by qualifying for the quarter-finals.

Gauff defeated Belgium’s Elise Mertens in 3-sets to book her spot in the last-8 and keep her in contention to win a major as a teenager. Speaking of teenagers winning Grand Slams, no one can forget Emma Raducanu‘s historic win at the 2021 US Open. The Brit was then ranked 150th in the world won the major as a qualifier, a first in the Open Era in Grand Slam singles events.

With Gauff being looked as a potential Grand Slam title contender for the immense talent she possesses, the American is waiting for her moment to claim her maiden major and cited the example of Raducanu and her win in the US Open after completing her win over Mertens in Paris.

“I’m thinking, especially if the US Open taught us anything, that anybody can win on any day. I think all players should really go into the match thinking about that. I think for me I’ve always believed that I could go far, but for other players I think so as well. In this tournament, on both sides of the draw, with the exception of Iga, there are a lot of lower-seeded and lower-ranked players still left in the tournament. So I really think that players believe that. Other players believe that. I think a lot of it stems from that tournament,” said Gauff as per BBC.
