“She’s a FIXER” Dayana Yastremska gets hammered on social media for retiring when she was just two points away from losing against Emma Raducanu

After a disappointing title defense in New York, Emma Raducanu has made a reasonably strong return at the Slovenia Open against Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska. Raducanu looked well in control of the match and was on the verge of winning it before Yastremska retired when the former US Open champion was just two points away from winning it.

Raducanu looked a better player than she was a couple of weeks ago at Flushing Meadows and mixed things up in the first set against Yastremska. She was solid on serve and created opportunities from the baseline to win the first set 6-2. While the Ukrainian didn’t have the arsenal to match Raducanu, she was trying her best to give everything back and was comparatively a better player in the second set.

Despite being a break down, she tried everything possible and even created chances on Raducanu’s serve but the teenager covered it by holding on to her serve convincingly. Raducanu eventually served for the set and at 30-0 up, was just two points away from winning the match before Yastremska injured her wrist while hitting a forehand.

The injury looked serious to the extent to which she was forced to withdraw despite Raducanu needing just two points to win the match. The 2021 US Open champion won the match in straight sets 6-2,5-3(ret.) to enter the Round of 16 of the competition where she’ll face either Elizabeth Mandlik or Anna-Lena Friedsam.

While it was obvious that Yastremska was really injured and had to withdraw so that the injury doesn’t get any bigger, fans on social media questioned her timing and argued that she could’ve stayed on the court for a couple more points.
