Should ATP, WTA, and players boycott Wimbledon 2022 after it crosses discrimination limits?

Daniil Medvedev, Victoria Azarenka, Andrey Rublev - Some of the top players to miss the Wimbledon 2022

We just found out the shocking news that Wimbledon announced. It was going to ban all Russian and Belarusian players from competing in the tournament. Fans are livid about this news and extremely disappointed as potential talents including world no. 2 Daniil Medvedev and Belarusian player Aryna Sabalenka will not get the opportunity to play in this prestigious tournament.

This was considered unfair by many as they felt that Russian and Belarusian players should get to play since they are individual players, not to mention there was discrimination in the decision taken. In the tweets shown, fans are asking tough questions about the Wimbledon including why the US was not charged with the same penalty during the US-Iraq war that took place in 2002.

Here is the tough question. Will ATP and WTA players boycott Wimbledon after this atrocious decision is taken? Will other players come in support of Daniil Medvedev and many other Russian and Belarusian players who are not being allowed to play? The decision is still impending as we feel fans will be all for it and it is also a token of solidarity for the tennis stars.

As everybody knows, Wimbledon is one of the oldest and most prestigious tournaments in the tennis world, it should come as no surprise that players will be sorely disappointed to not play in this Grand Slam. There is also a debate on boycotting this prestigious tournament, which will ruin the image of this Grand Slam.

Wimbledon officials should also prepare for the event in case this happens as the decision was only met with negativity. Individual players should not be banned as they can also be a cause for a positive change. It could be a powerful statement in the scenario that Daniil Medvedev wins the Grand Slam. If in his acceptance speech he says that he is against the war, it could show a direct disagreement between the government and their own citizen.

If ATP and WTA also boycott Wimbledon it will truly be a black mark on the tournament which is also considered one of the most elite tournaments. As it is the possibility of boycotting is written in the near future as 20-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic also thinks the decision is ‘crazy’. We also found out that Belarusian player Victoria Azarenka will also be included in the list.

We all hope that Wimbledon’s management changes its mind about having Russian players can also be a powerful statement and not only that it is a sheer waste of talent as Russia has excellent players in form.
