“Should have more respect,” Holger Rune accuses Casper Ruud of shouting in his face, fight gets ugly as parents defend their sons’ ‘lies’

In the last quarterfinal at the 2022 French Open, 8th seed Casper Ruud defeated Danish teenager Holger Rune in four tight sets 6-1,4-6,7-6(2),6-3 to reach his maiden grand slam semifinal. But towards the end, there was a lot of heat between the two players. Rune wasn’t particularly happy with a line call and hence acted very cold during the handshake with Ruud. The 8th seed too didn’t like Rune’s rude reaction and gave him a stern look.
It was assumed that the whole incident was finished at the net but it didn’t. Later, Rune revealed that Ruud is very disrespectful, unlike his team. He narrated that after the match, Ruud comes straight to him and yells and celebrates up in his face. He termed his actions as ‘lacking class’ and believed that he should’ve had more respect.
“The team is really nice and sweet, but then he (Ruud) goes straight to me and shouts ‘JAAA’ straight up in my face,” Rune said. “I thought ‘what the hell are you doing?’. You just do not do that. You can cheer as much as you want on the court, I do it myself when I win. But that’s just a lack of class. He should have had more respect.”

Later, both Ruud and Rune’s parents got involved in the matter with counter statements coming from each side. Ruud’s father pointed out that Rune is simply lying and that his son never celebrated disrespectfully at the Dane’s face.
“It is a simply a lie from Holger. It is nothing more to talk about because it is a pure lie. Our focus is now on the match on Friday against Cilic,” Ruud’s father said.
Rune’s mother argued that Ruud’s father wasn’t there when it happened and hence he should stop lying to the press. In response, Rune’s mother Aneke told BT: “The father was not there when it happened, he had left. It was only the physical trainer or therapist. It was while Holger was waiting for doping control, so the father can not comment on that. One thing is that you shout in my son’s face. Another thing is that the father is lying to the press,” she said.
