Simona Halep and Patrick Mouratoglou
Simona Halep, the former world number one was taken aback as she tested positive for a banned substance and faced a suspension from all tennis activities on the Tour. Her blood samples showed traces of the prohibited substance called Roxadustat during the US Open. She has also been suspended by the International Tennis Integrity Agency.
The Romanian issued a statement feeling betrayed and confused and claimed her innocence. Halep had even stated that she will keep fighting until the complete truth is found out. As the news came out, many people extended their support and concerns for Halep. Her coach Patrick Mouratoglou has also come out to extend his support.
Mouratglou showed his complete support to Halep in bringing out the truth. He expressed being by her side until the final battle. The 2-time Grand Slam champion further assented to her coach’s support in overcoming the upcoming challenges. She reposted her coach’s supportive message on social media and agreed to his help to fight the legal battle. She captioned the story as “We will, Patrick.“
Simona Halep has claimed that she has never taken any prohibited substance knowingly
Mouratoglou had posted on his social media account with a message for the Romanian “I support 100% in this fight, Simona. All the way through.” This support came through despite Mouratoglou having been appointed as a full-time coach of Holger Rune’s after the World No 9 ended her 2022 season.
Halep hasn’t played since her first-round exit at the US Open after which she underwent nose surgery. She had prematurely ended her season before the test results were out. She is hopeful that she can be free before the next season begins and exclaims her innocence.
The 2019 Wimbledon winner posted her statement on her social media account and stated that “I will fight until the end to prove that I never knowingly took any prohibited substance and I have faith that sooner or later, the truth will come out. It’s not about the titles or the money. It’s about honor, and the love story I have developed with the game of tennis over the last 25 years.”
The 2018 French Open champion now risks a suspension of up to 4 years for doping. She is yet to appeal against the suspension, but reversals of such nature are rare and usually take a lot of time to examine.
