Romanian tennis ace Simona Halep still rues the moment she agreed to take Collagen on Patrick Mouratoglou and his team’s recommendations. The former World No. 1 who is serving a four-year suspension over doping is frustrated over the fact that she is the only one paying the price for a mistake someone else made.
As it was found out that the roxadustat found in Halep’s urine sample came from Collagen which she started consuming on the advice of Mouratoglou and his team, the Frenchman apologized. However, that did not help Simona who was slapped with a four-year ban by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA).
Now, Halep has talked about the mistake committed by Patrick and his team and has vented her frustration. While Halep thanked Mouratoglou for admitting his mistake, she is definitely not pleased at the fact that she is the only sufferer in all this drama.
My team recommended that I take a food supplement, collagen. I followed their advice and it turned out that the collagen was contaminated with roxadustat. I'm sure it wasn't done intentionally and I'm grateful he admits the mistake was his and his team's. Yes, they are the ones who gave me this food supplement. And for this error – their error – I am the only one to pay the high price: twenty-five years of career destroyed!Simona Halep said to Paris Match.
Simona Halep changes her stance on comeback in matter of days
While Simona Halep is still figuring out a way to cope with what is happening to her, the Romanian is also hopeful of changing her fortunes when she goes to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Amid all this, she is also thinking about her comeback but is unable to decide what would be the best course of action.
Halep said a few days back that if she fails to prove her innocence in CAS and has to serve the entire ban, a comeback would be almost impossible for her. However, Halep has changed her stance now. The 32-year-old says that she would be hoping to make a comeback irrespective of her age.
I prefer not to consider the worst-case scenario. It would be a disaster. Especially since, if the sanction is maintained, I cannot know what will happen over the next three years, or how my body evolve. My dream is to come back, whatever my age. One thing is certain: I want to choose how my career ends and I don't want to end my playing life anywhere other than court.Sioma Halep said about her comeback.
As Halep has changed her mentality from not wanting to make a comeback if things go south to being determined about returning to the tour irrespective of the result of her hearing, it would be interesting to see how she approaches things after the decision from CAS.
