Two-time Grand Slam title winner Simona Halep took to Instagram to clear up rumors about her dating former Portuguese tennis player Joao Monteiro. Halep, who has been under provisional suspension due to doping allegations since last year, has plans to make a comeback soon. However, rumors like this are the last thing that she wants right now.

Joao Monteiro has apparently joined Simona Halep’s team as her hitting partner and coach and was recently seen with her BFF (best friends forever). It caught the attention of the paparazzi, and the press got creative. Clearing the rumors, Simona Halep wrote on her Instagram story: “I kept reading fabricated articles about my relationship with Joao, he is my training partner and nothing more! Thank you” (Romanian translated to English).

The matter is far more sensitive than it seems at first because of Simona Halep’s current relationship status. She got divorced from her millionaire husband, Toni Luruc, last year after her failed US Open campaign, a year after the couple had their civil marriage.

Considering Simona Halep’s current condition as far as her career and relationship is concerned, these fake rumors are obviously something that he would not like to entertain. Thus, her anger is pretty much justified.

Romanian tennis star Simona Halep has been suspended from taking part in any WTA events since October 2022. She tested positive for roxadustat in a doping test during the 2022 US Open, and she has been trying since then to clear herself of the charges levied against her, in vain.

“Not allowing me to participate into any tournament for 8 months. Now I know that I will have missed the Australian Open, Roland Garros and Wimbledon. Not to mention that I will have lost all my points and my ranking. Not only they are killing my reputation, but also me as a professional player, and I don’t even talk about the consequences on my mental health,” Simona Halep had said in an angry statement.

Her situation has changed for the good in the past few days and she was on the entry list for the 2023 US Open. She later removed her name from the competition, confusing her fans. However, it showed that her return was right around the corner.
