Romanian tennis star Simona Halep is not holding herself back when hitting back at critics. The two-time Grand Slam champion did not mince her words when hitting back at Caroline Wozniacki for taking a dig at her.
As the Danish tennis star expressed her reservations about Halep getting a chance to play at the 2024 Miami Open right after returning from a ban, Halep has hit back.
The 32-year-old said that if Wozniacki is not able to understand the verdict from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), she must get someone to translate it for her. Halep was asked about Wozniacki’s comments recently, and the Romanian hit back in some style.
Halep said that she does not think about those comments anymore and said that if Wozniacki is still bothered about it, she must go and read the CAS verdict about her.
I didn't even think about that subject anymore and I can only repeat that she should read the decision better and if she doesn't understand someone translate her.Simona Halep said
Simona Halep gets Kim Clijsters support in doping fiasco
While people continue to debate about whether Simona Halep getting a wildcard entry right after her comeback was fair or not, the Romanian has received support from Kim Clijsters on the matter. The former Belgian tennis player has clearly stated that Halep is right in claiming that she did not cheat.
The former tennis star has said that although Halep had the same stance as Caroline Wozniacki during the Maria Sharapova doping fiasco, she understands why the Romanian is claiming that she is not a cheater. Clijsters declared that Halep unknowingly consumed the banned substance and hence she is right in claiming her innocence.
When someone tests positive for taking something to become a better athlete, then I one hundred percent agree with Caroline. Halep’s situation is completely different, she tested positive unknowingly. Her saying something about Maria in the past shows her vision of how she looks at doping and that she’s not a cheater. In [Halep’s] mind, she didn’t cheat, and I do believe that.Kim Clijsters said on Served with Andy Roddick
Notably, Halep was banned for four years over the presence of Roxadustat in her samples. However, the Romanian got her ban reduced to nine months following an appeal in CAS. Halep then made a comeback to the tour with a wildcard entry into the 2024 Miami Open.
