On Friday, she lost her match with the German player Angelique Kerber in the third round where she got to receive 2000 offensive messages.

She also had previously posted an Instagram story saying, “I am a human, after last night’s match I got 2K + messages of abuse/anger from people upset by yesterday’s result. It’s so hard to read messages like these.” This in itself was Stephens sharing her harassment stories.

Sloane Stephens met VP Harris to take an attempt to reduce the problems faced through online harassment by maximum women athletes. This task force took place in the White House where the American player gave a speech.

Many of you might first associate me with being a professional tennis player, which of course is my day job, but it’s not the sound of who I am. I’m a daughter, a sister, a wife, and I’m more than an athlete, more than a label. It is all disregarded when people online seek to harass me and harm me. Whether I win or lose, someone online is mad, and they will make it known… I’m just worried as I know what will be waiting for me when I unlock my phone,” Stephens said.

Supporting the concern “Sloane has courageously brought to the forefront an issue that many modern-day athletes are forced to deal with. All of us have a responsibility to stand together to support those who have gone through this, and also recognize they shouldn’t have to be alone fighting on this issue” Harris said.

The new task force will majorly focus on the consequences faced through online harassment, and help victims solve and take action against such aggressive platforms.
