Lorenzo Musetti marched into the fourth round of the 2023 Italian Open, after defeating Frances Tiafoe in an epic encounter in Rome. The Italian got the better of his American counterpart in three sets, after coming back from a set down. However, one particular moment after the match has grabbed the attention of the fans.

Frances Tiafoe had a cold handshake with Lorenzo Musetti at the net, which one generally does not expect after such a tightly fought contest. The American did not even make eye contact with his opponent and moved straight towards packing his bags after the handshake.

Fans on social media were certainly not impressed with his un-sportsmanship-like conduct as they slammed Tiafoe for his post-match handshake. The American was outplayed in the final set, as the level of his tennis consistently dropped in the last two sets. Nevertheless, the home fans present inside the stadium were delighted to see Lorenzo Musetti through into the next round.

In today’s world, nothing escapes the attention of the social media. Fans were quick to spot Frances Tiafoe’s arrogant behavior and took to Twitter to address the issue.

The home crowd had been pretty hostile towards Frances Tiafoe, which might have upset the American. Moreover, a couple of close calls were made against him, which further added salt to the injury. Tiafoe did not even shake hands with the umpire after his cold handshake with Musetti.

Frances Tiafoe has had a rather poor clay court season so far, as he has been knocked out in the third round of the Madrid and Italian Open. The 25-year-old is certainly not among the better players on clay, however, given his talent, he should be at least reaching the latter stages of the tournament on a consistent basis.
