“Something I dreamed of since I was a kid” Carlos Alcaraz gets emotional after his historic US Open triumph while talking about his sacrifices

The breakthrough 2022 season just keeps getting better for 19-year-old Carlos Alcaraz as he shocks the world by winning his maiden major title at the US Open. He defeated Casper Ruud in the final of the US Open in four sets 6-4,2-6,7-6(1),6-3 to become the youngest grand slam champion since Rafael Nadal in 2005. With this, he also becomes the new World No.1 and is also the youngest World No.1 in tennis history.
Alcaraz was filled with emotions right after he converted the championship point. He fell onto the court in tears and then ran straight to his box to share his emotions. He even broke down while sitting on the bench trying to process what he had just achieved. During on trophy presentation ceremony, he spoke about missing his mom and other family members who couldn’t be there to witness him script history.
“I was thinking of my mom, she’s not here & my grandfather. A lot of family are here but there are a lot of ppl from my family they couldn’t come here to watch the final, to watch some matches. I was thinking of all of them,” Alcaraz said.

Later, Alcaraz said that he has been dreaming of such a moment since he was a kid which is ironic given that he is still a teenager. He added that he has worked really hard for this moment and doesn’t have words to describe what it feels like. He also thanked all his family and coaching staff for making this dream a reality.
“This is something I dreamed of since I was a kid. To be number 1, to be a champion. It’s something I worked really really hard for. It’s tough to talk right now, a lot of emotions. This is something I tried to achieve, all the hard work I did with my team, my family,” Alcaraz said.
With this US Open triumph, Alcaraz has become the 7th youngest grand slam champion in tennis history, the second youngest US Open champion since Pete Sampras, and the youngest major champion in the last 17 years.
