Wild protest scenes broke out at the tournament complex in Napoli
After a huge controversy over a player and his wife’s belongings thrown all over the hotel floor allegedly by tournament authorities, the ATP 250 Napoli Cup has landed into another soup with fans protesting after play was suspended for the second time due to slippery court conditions.
The tournament in Italy earlier featured on the ATP Challenger Tour but was upgraded this year due to other cancelled events in Asia where an upsurge of COVID-19 forced change in plans.
What’s even wilder, hoards of fans chanted “refund“, “it’s a scam”, “you are a s*** figure” and “it takes a class action” at the tournament complex in embarrassing scenes for organizers.

Nicolás Barrientos is a Colombian professional tennis player. Currently, he is participating in the Napoli Cup with his partner Miguel Ángel Reyes-Varela. When he came back to his hotel, he was horrified to notice that all his and his wife’s belongings were thrown on the floor. Barrientos took to Twitter to tell the world about his ordeal.
“This filled the cup! How can this happen in an ATP250, not even in a Challenger had it happened to me, well I think it happened to my partner in a Challenger organized by the same company as this 250,” Barrientos tweeted.
He then went further and explained in detail what happened to him and his wife’s belongings, saying “Napoli ATP250, I arrive at the lobby after playing my match at 5 pm and find all my belongings and my wife’s in the lobby, poorly packed, various things lying on the floor.”
Barrientos also recalled a previous incident where he got an email asking him to change the hotel room while he was playing. He had to change his hotel room once before, on the second day of his stay at the hotel.
“I check my email and see an email that arrived at 4 pm while I was playing, notifying me that I had to change hotels again. They had already changed me once on the second day of my arrival at the tournament,” he tweeted telling the turn of events.
