If one believes Carlos Alcaraz to be the future of tennis, one might not be wrong. At just 20 years of age, the young Spaniard has won two grand slams and is on a spree to win a third one. But it’s not just his game and sportsmanship that is adored by everyone, but also his childish nature and funny remarks.
Carlos Alcaraz steps onto the court and it’s always a Nike logo on his chest. Being sponsored by the brand he surely must be earning tonnes of money, but his choice of t-shirts is also unique. Unlike most other ATP players, he almost never wears a sleeved t-shirt, but always a sleeveless one. Someone else who used to dress up like that was Aussie player Nick Kyrgios.

Kyrgios who is currently on a hiatus due to injuries is taking a duty in the media booth of the Australian Open 2024. Kyrgios, known for his humor and sarcasm, when asked if he is the inspiration for young Carlos to go sleeveless, this is what Alcaraz replied:
I need to scare my opponents in a certain way. Not with my forehand or backhand. But with my big arms. I'm trying that.Carlos Alcaraz told Nick Kyrgios
Well, someone who is aware of Alcaraz’s game can certainly say that the 20-year-old has very well succeeded in scaring opponents as big as Novak Djokovic with his backhand and forehand, but this time we will take his words for it.
Carlos Alcaraz slammed for his sleeveless t-shirt
The 20-year-old Spanish star has taken to Melbourne wearing a striking sleeveless yellow jersey with green embellishments around the collars. The combination, worn with traditional Nike white shorts, is designed to create a statement on the court. However, the wardrobe reveal has sparked a flurry of reactions on X (formerly Twitter), with some fans applauding the bold choice and others disapproving.

The hype about Alcaraz’s outfit grew after fans saw that the last time he wore a sleeveless jersey, he lost to Daniil Medvedev. Nonetheless, Alcaraz dismissed superstitions, crediting his style inspiration to fellow countryman and tennis legend Rafael Nadal.
Alcaraz, a Nike athlete since 2015, recently signed a hefty $1 million contract. While he cites the warm and humid temperatures in Australia as the rationale for choosing this particular design, many have expressed their displeasure with the unorthodox look.
Critics believe that Nadal’s sleeveless shirt, a defining design, does not look good on anyone other than the champion himself. Despite the diverse comments, Alcaraz is steadfast in his decision, claiming confidence in his game and a desire to make his own mark in tennis fashion.
