The Swiss star, Stan Wawrinka penned an emotional message on his social media handles about his tennis journey after returning to top-100 of the ATP rankings. Having reached the quarterfinals in consecutive tournaments in Rotterdam and Marseille, Wawrinka climbed to No. 97 in the ATP rankings last Monday. The 37-year-old Swiss tennis legend acknowledged that he has surpassed his initial aspirations in the sport, having already achieved three Grand Slam titles.
Despite his extended challenges with injury and form over the past few years, Wawrinka has made a remarkable return to the Top 100, having fallen as low as No. 322. The 37-year-old was out of tennis for 13 months and battled his way to recovery. Wawrinka shared an old video of his younger self playing tennis on this occasion and penned an emotional message.
The clip featured a young Wawrinka hitting his signature one-handed backhand, followed by a recent highlight reel of a similar backhand winner on the tour. The former world No.3 expressed both pride and gratitude at having fulfilled his goal of re-entering the world’s Top 100.
He said, “Work hard and follow your dreams, but never forget where you came from. Young me dreaming of entering the top 100 ATP. Old me entering the top 100 ATP again! I achieved way more than I could have dreamed of but it’s always gonna be special!”

Stan Wawrinka making steady gains in 2023
In a recent statement, Stan Wawrinka conveyed his strong belief in his game and his capacity to defeat players ranked higher than him and compete for titles. Looking ahead to the 2023 season, Wawrinka expressed his confidence in his ability to overcome any opponent on tour.
However, he also recognized the need to enhance the consistency of his game to achieve significant results throughout the extended season. 2023 had been a mixed year in terms of results for the Swiss star. Although he had been under the radar of his fellow countryman, Roger Federer for most of his career, he did a great job in creating a name for himself.
His single-handed backhand shot is still the best shot one can play in tennis. After a disappointing start with Australian Open, Wawrinka is showing some consistency by reaching two back-to-back quarterfinals in Rotterdam and Open 13. Fans are hoping that he continues this good form and goes much deeper in the upcoming Indian Wells and Miami Open to boost his rankings further.
