Although Stan Wawrinka acknowledges that he is closer to the end of his career than the beginning, the Swiss professional tennis player continues to relish the experience just as much. At 37 years old, Wawrinka holds the distinction of being the oldest player ranked in the Top 100 of the ATP Rankings. He demonstrated impressive resilience after falling outside the Top 300 in August.

Following his victory over 26th seed Miomir Kecmanovic on Saturday, the 16-time tour-level titlist spoke with ATP Tour about his passion for tennis, the reasons why he still enjoys the process at his age, the match that stands out in his memory, and other topics. He picked his famous win at the 2015 Roland Garros against Novak Djokovic as the best match he played.

When asked about one special match he played, Wawrinka said, “It’s tough to say, but I would probably pick the French Open final against Novak Djokovic. It’s tough to pick one because I’ve had so many. I’m lucky I have many big memories, but the French Open has always been special. In France, winning the title after winning in juniors is something really special.”

Defeating Djokovic in a Grand Slam final for a player outside the Big-3 has always been a tough task. Wawrinka did it in the time when the Serbian was at his prime form. The final witnessed an epic comeback from Wawrinka after losing the first set and winning the next three sets to win the title.

Stan Wawrinka aging like a fine wine, into the third round of Indian Wells

The 37-year-old Stan Wawrinka is looking in good touch ever since his comeback into the sport. He looks fully fit and running well during the matches. He reached the third round of the ongoing Indian Wells Open after defeating Miomir Kecmanović in straight sets.

The Swiss star recently broke back into the top 100 and has been enjoying his time on the court. All the fans and the tennis world are loving him to play again and win matches. They would want to see him go deep in the tournament and entertain the fans yet again.

However, the next round match-up will not be easy for the veteran as he will be facing the seventh seed, Holger Rune. Rune has been in good form too late and it will be a big boost in confidence for former world No.3 if he wins the next match. He also partnered with Frances Tiafoe in the men’s doubles and the pair is set to play in the round of 16 against the top seed.
