Stan Wawrinka withdraws from the Swiss Open in order to be fit and play his best level of the game before the US Open

Stanislas ‘Stan’ Wawrinka of Switzerland is a 3-time singles Grand Slam champion. He reached a career-high ranking of World No 3 for the first time in the year 2014. He reached the Round of 16 at the Queen’s Club championship. But, had to face early-round exits at the French Open 2022 to Corentin Moutet and Jannik Sinner at the Wimbledon Championship 2022.
Last year in March, Wawrinka had surgery on his left foot due to which he was missing in action for quite a few months. He was supposed to be back in action within a few months but his return to the court got delayed due to his second surgery just after the first one. This left him wondering about his return and he thought that he might not be able to compete again in major tournaments.

Stan Wawrinka recently faced an early exit at the ongoing Swedish Open. He was even supposed to play in the EFG Swiss Open Gstaad but seeing his fitness, he has decided not to participate in the Swiss Open. He wanted to play in front of his home crowd, however, he believes it’s will be better not to play right now. He wishes to play his best level of tennis and does not want to compromise on his standards while playing tournaments at the highest level.
It’s been a long road for Stan Wawrinka but he is getting prepared for his return to the ATP Tour. Stan Wawrinka, recently shared on his social media account stating that “I’m sad to say that I will have to withdraw from Gstaad. Always, but even more in Switzerland, I want to play in front of my fans“. He wishes to be fit to be ready to play at the US Open.
