“Stay strong, the world is still here,” Iga Swiatek sends a ‘loud and clear’ message to Ukraine after her French Open triumph

World No.1 Iga Swiatek is once again the last woman standing at a mega tournament. She defeated 18-year-old Coco Gauff in the final of the 2022 French Open to win her second grand slam title. She thrashed Gauff in straight sets 6-1,6-3 to win her sixth consecutive tour title. She is now on a 35-match winning streak- the longest winning streak of this century along with Venus Williams who won 35 consecutive matches in 2000.
Swiatek hasn’t lost a match in almost 4 months and is showing levels of consistency that was not seen in women’s tennis for a long time. Apart from tennis, Swiatek also has been quite vocal about the Russian invasion of Ukraine since the very start. At the Qatar Open a few months back, she took a firm stand with the people of Ukraine and called out the Russians for their atrocities.
Ever since then, Swiatek the Ukrain flag on her hat, and to date, she continues to do that. After winning the French Open, she concluded her speech by saying a few words about Ukraine.

She encouraged the Ukrainian people to stay strong and assured them the world is still here to support them. Due to her grace, she was then received by a standing ovation with the whole Chatrier crowd applauding for her and Ukraine. “In the end, I wanted to say something to Ukraine. Please stay strong, the world is still here,” she said.
She recalled that during her first speech in Doha, when the Russians attacked Ukraine, she hoped that there would be peace by the time of her next speech but that time hasn’t come yet. In the end, she hoped that the situation will get better and thanked everyone.
“Since my first speech in Doha, I was hoping that when I do the next one, the situation will get better but I’m still going to have hopes and try to support. So a big thank you to everyone!” she concluded
