The Italian star, Matteo Berrettini‘s coach, Stefano Massari defends the Italian’s girlfriend after she was criticized for his downfall recently. Massari has been in long association with Berrettini and knows him very well. However, 2023 had not been great so far for the world No.23. He lost in the first round of the Australian Open to Andy Murray.
This defeat was followed by a quarterfinal exit from the Mexico Open as he gave a walkover citing an injury. A dip in his form and injuries that hampered his game led to a lot of blame and criticism of his girlfriend, Melissa Satta. The fans and tennis world pointed out her as the reason for the Italian’s dip in form. Recently, Massari spoke to the media and backed Satta, and reasoned his statements.
Speaking to the Super Tennis media, he said, “He finished the Australian Open disappointed with his loss and sorry that he couldn’t turn around the match he had taken over. Then, after a difficult year, during which he trained and played little, he chose to take a break to take more time to train and then be able to play continuously. A longer break for love? No, I also talk to him about what happens to him off the field and therefore about his important relationships”
He added by saying, “I met his girlfriend ten years ago and then Ajla. I don’t know Melissa Satta yet but I’m sure Matteo is fine with her and it has a positive effect on him. Matteo is happy with what is happening to him in this relationship which is different from that with another tennis player who was a little older than him but not as much as Melissa, and who comes from the entertainment world. It seems to me that he saw it very well.”

Matteo Berrettini set to play the Indian Wells Open 2023
After a disappointing start to the year, Matteo Berrettini looks to make a comeback in the Indian Wells Open 2023. With the absence of both Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, it will be a good opportunity for the Italian to go deep. However, he still has a lot of catching up to do.
Players like Daniil Medvedev have been in red-hot form this season winning three titles already. On the other hand, Carlos Alcaraz will be the top seed and looks to win the 1000 points and move up in the rankings. Along with these players, there are quite a lot of young talents in the mix who can challenge Berrettini.
The 20th seed will play his first match against the unseeded, Taro Daniel. It should be an easy game on paper considering everything. However, Berrettini will not be complacent and give his best. Fans will be happy to see him return to form and play the best tennis.
