Stefanos Tsitsipas beats Frances Tiafoe to seal a fourth round spot at 2024 Indian Wells

Stefanos Tsitsipas defeated Frances Tiafoe in the third round of the 2024 Indian Wells and with this, the Greek international reached the round of 16 of the tournament. Tsitsipas also looked sharp in the second round and kept up the same consistency against the American, which helped him get the upper hand in the match from the beginning. 

In the second round, Stefanos Tsitsipas defeated Lucas Pouille 6-3, 6-2 in straight sets. This time around, he defeated Frances Tiafoe 6-3, 6-3. He has yet to lose a single set in the tournament and will thus head into the round of 16 full of confidence.

It is not certain who he will face in the next round but the way he is playing in this tournament so far, he has clearly made serious improvements, compared to the way he was playing a few months ago.

The Greek has not been in good form for over a year now. His only good performance in 2023 came in the Los Cabos Open, which he won. Talking about his performance in 2024 so far, it has been below par from the very beginning. He lost in the fourth round of the Australian Open, the semifinals of the Los Cabos Open, and the quarterfinals of the Mexican Open.

After winning the match against Frances Tiafoe, Stefanos Tsitsipas said that he felt really good. He said that he had good confidence behind his serve and return and made few unforced errors. Moreover, the Greek said that he used his full potential against the American.

“It was good. I was returning well. We had some crazy points. I managed to win some of them. It felt good to play my game and have good confidence behind serve and return. They’re the most crucial elements in our game. These are the elements that you start a rally or a point with.” he said. 

“My beginnings were good. I did get a few unforced errors here and there. I also generated a few winners. I felt my game was big today. I really utilized it to its full potential.” he added. 

Stefanos Tsitsipas is the 11th seed in the tournament and there is a lot of competition this year. However, he can surely uplift his overall confidence with a positive performance in the Indian Wells.
