Stefanos Tsitsipas, a Greek tennis player, has clarified the message he left on the camera lens following his win over Nicolas Jarry in the Round of 16 at the Monte-Carlo Masters. Tsitsipas wrote, “Clay court in the US is like a unicorn on a skateboard,” which left many people confused.
However, later Tsitsipas explained to Prakash Amritraj of the Tennis Channel that his message referred to the lack of clay courts in the United States. In Europe, clay courts are a traditional surface, but in the US, hard courts are promoted more. Tsitsipas expressed his wish to see more clay courts worldwide, including in Asia.
Furthermore, Tsitsipas emphasized the benefits of playing on clay and grass courts, which are better for players’ health and can lead to longer careers. He pointed out that most injuries come from hard courts, which can cause players’ bodies to bear a lot of weight, especially when they spend months playing on them.
In summary, Tsitsipas shed light on his camera message, expressed his desire to see more clay courts around the world, and highlighted the advantages of playing on clay and grass courts for players’ well-being and longevity in the sport.

Taylor Fritz upsets defending champion Stefanos Tsitsipas in Monte Carlo
Taylor Fritz upended Stefanos Tsitsipas, the two-time defending champion of the Monte Carlo Masters, in the quarterfinals on Friday with a score of 6-2, 6-4. Tsitsipas, who was seeded second, had been on a 12-match winning streak on the French Cote d’Azur, where he previously won two Masters 1000 titles.
“I stuck to the strategy of pulling the trigger and not letting him dictate with his forehand,” Fritz said. Stefanos Tsitsipas was unable to maintain his winning streak as he lost to Taylor Fritz in the Monte Carlo Masters quarterfinals on Friday. Fritz won 6-2, 6-4 to advance to the semifinals of a Masters event for the first time.
Despite Tsitsipas breaking back to 4-4 in the second set, Fritz broke his serve easily to go up 5-4 before closing out the match with an ace. Tsitsipas admitted that he was off his game, particularly his serve, which did not work well. Fritz will now face Andrey Rublev of Russia, who defeated Jan-Lennard Struff 6-1, 7-6 (5) in the quarterfinals.
