Greek tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas had been touted by many tennis experts as the next big thing in men’s tennis. Although the World No. 7 has enjoyed considerable success in his career so far, he has struggled at the biggest stage—the Grand Slams. The 25-year-old has reached a Grand Slam final twice, at the French Open in 2021 and the Australian Open earlier this year.
Currently participating in the ATP 250 European Open in Antwerp, the former No. 3 contemplated his relative failures at the Grand Slam stage. Citing the success of the Big 3 (Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer) in the pre-tournament press conference, Tsitsipas said, “What I lacked was perhaps the energy. I exert myself too much on the court. If you look at other champions like Djokovic, Federer, and even Nadal, they know how to handle all the effort that a Grand Slam requires.”
Tsitsipas’ biggest career success to date came at the 2019 ATP Finals in London. The Greek pro defeated Dominic Thiem in an entertaining 3-setter to win his third title of the year. Talking about the win, Stefanos remarked, “The only time in my career I was smart enough to handle all of this well was at the 2019 Masters, and I won it! It takes a lot of time to master this management.” (H/T: We Love Tennis)
However, the Greek is cognizant of the fact that maturing as an athlete is not a linear process and that it takes time. Tsitsipas exuded confidence that he’s on the right track as he looks forward to winning his second title this year in Antwerp.

Stefanos Tsitsipas expresses his desire to succeed alongside his girlfriend Paula Badosa
World No.7 Stefanos Tsitsipas expressed his desire to hold the World No. 1 spot alongside his girlfriend Paula Badosa. Speaking to the press in Antwerp, Tsitspas said, “I really want to realize my dream one day. I dream that Paula and I can succeed together and be number 1.”

Earlier, Badosa expressed her desire to play mixed doubles alongside Tsitsipas at the 2024 Australian Open. The Spanish pro hasn’t returned to the tour since announcing her withdrawal from the US Open; however, she hopes to be fit by January next year.
On the other hand, Stefanos enjoyed some doubles success alongside his brother Petros, as the pair qualified for the semi-final of the European Open. In the singles draw, Tsitsipas will face Dutch pro Botic Van de Zandschulp in the round of 16 on Thursday.
