Stefanos Tsitsipas has fired coach Mark Philippoussis following an embarrassing second-round defeat at the US Open. The World No. 7 suffered a loss against Dominic Stricker in a five-set match with a score of 5-7, 7-6, 7-6, 6-7, 3-6.
Following the match, there was a ripple effect that resulted in the dismissal of coach Philippoussis by Tsitsipas. While Tsitsipas didn’t reveal this development during the English press conference, he did confirm it in the Greek version, leaving the tennis world uncertain about the decision.
“I felt off the pace. My association with Mark ended,” said the Greek, merely a month after the association began. However, he also made it clear that he blamed no one for his defeat. “Everything on the court is under my control. If I’m not able to deliver, then I’m not supposed to do well,” he said.
Tsitsipas further admitted that his performance had been lackluster since his victory at Los Cabos. He conceded that his game wasn’t up to par for producing satisfactory results. It’s worth noting that he has never advanced beyond the third round at Flushing Meadows.
