Greece has been hit by a horrible flood disaster recently and even a week later, many houses and streets are still underwater. The flood was mainly caused by Storm Daniel in the town of Zagora, on the Pilio peninsula in Thessaly, it has rained over 27 inches in the last 24 hours itself. Looking at the horrible conditions and the sufferings of so many people, Greek tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas has donated £100,000 to the flood victims.
“It’s devastating to witness what our country has been through lately. We have shown true Greek spirit by sticking together as one and helping each other. We must keep giving what we can to help our neighbors, our fellow citizens, and everyone affected by the fires & floods. Please join me in raising funds to keep everyone safe and help them return to their beloved homes as soon as possible,” the World No. 5 said, pleading with others to donate to the cause as well.
The same storm has also caused floods in Libya. Both Libya and Greece are facing similar problems for the same reason, the dry soil of these two nations. The dry soil does not allow much of the flooded water to permeate into it which leads to the water running above ground through streams and rivers, ultimately leading to so much trouble.
Moreover, the amount of rainfall Greece has received over the past few days has been unfathomable. This much rainfall is rarely seen in Europe and it has caused billions of dollars worth of losses to the nations.
Stefanos Tsitsipas reveals he still aims at winning a Grand Slam and becoming World No. 1
Greek tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas recently revealed that, despite knowing that winning a Grand Slam and becoming World No. 1 is not everything, he thinks about it a lot. Expanding on his thoughts, the current World No. 5 said that the young players have a lot more hunger and physical fitness than him now.
“There was a gap, roughly between 2018 & 2020.. before Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, and Holger Rune. Then, all the spotlight was on me, Zverev, & Dominic Thiem. Now the scene has changed,” he said.
The Greek international regretted that he was addicted to tennis as a youngster and it took some things away from him. However, it does not mean that he is satisfied with what he has achieved.
