Stefanos Tsitsipas makes heartwarming offer to build school in Victoria using Australian Open prize money and provide free education
The Greek star also said he considers the Australian Open his home Grand Slam due to the warm reception he gets in the country

Stefanos Tsitsipas made a wonderful promise to Australians after his quarterfinal victory over Jiri Lehecka at the 2023 Australian Open. The Greek said he would build a school in Victoria, a state of Australia, with the prize money he would get if he ever won the Australian Open and provide children with free education there.
The third seed talked passionately about his love for Australia after the match. Tsitsipas said he loved the warmth of the Australian crowd towards him. He said he considers the Australian Open his home Grand Slam due to this hospitality. The 24-year-old then made a beautiful promise to the spectators. Tsitsipas says he knows that getting proper education is difficult for many kids. He said he would contribute to fixing this problem by building a school in the state of Victoria.
Tsitsipas said, “I would love one day to hopefully win the Aussie Open and giving a big portion of the prize money to build a school in Victoria, which is the state of education.” He said he was getting more philanthropic and would like to add this to his charitable contributions. “I saw how difficult it is for kids around the world to get a proper education as they don’t all grow up privileged. So I would love to provide an opportunity for kids in this state,” the Greek stated.The promise was received brilliantly by the crowd in Melbourne. There was a roar of approval and a few even stood up and clapped for Tsitsipas.
The crowd was clearly proud seeing someone important like Tsitsipas doing this to help those less fortunate. This wasn’t the only time Tsitsipas got the crowd on their feet that night. The World No.4 played brilliantly as he secured passage to the semifinals. He will have designs of going all the way in Australia now.
Stefanos Tsitsipas gets past Jiri Lehecka to enter Australian Open semis
Stefanos Tsitsipas cruised past Jiri Lehecka in the quarterfinals. The Greek star continued his brilliant form at the Slam to get to the last four. He dispatched Lehecka in straight sets within two hours and 17 minutes.
Tsitsipas started as he meant to go, running away to a 3-0 lead in the first set. Lehecka tried to fight back, but he was no match for the Greek. Tsitsipas closed the first set 6-3 to his name. The second set was a different story. The tight set began with neither player giving in. But Lehecka gained the upper hand and was receiving while 5-4 ahead. Tsitsipas brought out his big serves and delivered some aces to level things 5-5. The game goes to a tiebreak which Tsitsipas secures while only dropping 2 points.
Tsitsipas then went on to win the set and the match with a 6-4 in the final set. The victory meant that he has now won all six of his Grand Slam quarterfinals. He hopes to continue his positive momentum, and then who knows, maybe Victoria ends up with a new school.
