Current World No. 5 Stefanos Tsitsipas opened up to ATPTour.com about his love for tennis and the ways in which the sport has changed his life. He talked about the nostalgic moments he had when he won his first ATP Masters 1000 event.

Speaking to ATPTour.com, the Greek revealed that he is indeed very grateful for choosing this particular sport. “I have been very committed and very devoted to the journey. Every single day, I feel grateful that I have chosen you,” he said, addressing tennis.

He was also hopeful when he voiced out that he wished this love between himself and the sport would continue in the future. “I hope my kids, one day, get to play with you, be part of you, and continue and carry over my legacy,” said Stefanos Tsitsipas, as he wished his children would also get to enjoy the sport as he does.

Furthermore, he also reminisced over his first ATP 1000 win. “One of my most memorable memories you have offered me is my first Masters 1000 trophy in Monte Carlo, which to me feels like home a little bit,” he said. He further explained that he used to attend the event growing up. However, the victory at Monte Carlo seemed to bring up those memories, as the Greek player fondly remembered his childhood memories. 

Tsitsipas also said this feeling of nostalgia was one he could not substitute with anything else. “You taught me to live life as it goes, to never doubt myself, and to just keep on living, regardless of the outcome,” said World No. 5. He explained that one of the major lessons the sport had taught him was to take life as it came and work on it.

Tsitsipas reveals that he refused to play any other sport after his discovery of tennis

Stefanos Tsitsipas had expressed his love for tennis via a letter on the official ATP website. This emotional ode to the sport held many instances from the Greek’s life, explaining his love for tennis.

“I would wake up during the night and tell my father: Consider me out of any other sport, football, swimming, athletics because I only want to play tennis and it will be my sport for the rest of my life,” said the World No. 5 player. He explained that the sport had had a massive impact on him ever since he was first introduced to it. He admitted that he refused to play any other sport.

Nevertheless, Tsitsipas had moved the tennis world with this emotional tribute to the sport. This letter saw him explain all that was there to let the audience know what it was that drew him to the sport.
