Casper Ruud has done the unthinkable and defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in the semifinal of the 2024 Los Cabos Open by saving five points in the second set. In the process, he ended up defeating the defending champion, Tsitsipas, who had already been suffering from a poor form for the past couple of months. The Greek ace’s problem is a recurring issue that was highlighted in this match as well.
Ruud won the first set pretty convincingly, but Stefanos Tsitsipas made a comeback in the second set. It went to the tiebreak, and the Greek was in a winning situation, but Casper Ruud pulled off a crazy clutch performance and ended up winning the match at a go, which shows that the Norwegian is in sensational form.
Ruud has been brilliant in the tournament all through. He won the first match against Marcus Giron without any effort at all and even got a bagel in the second set. He then defeated Nuno Borges in the second match, winning the match 6-3, 6-2, before ultimately defeating the defending champion.
He is now likely to face either Jordan Thompson or Alexander Zverev in the final of the tournament. If he ends up facing Zverev, it is going to be a final worth watching because he and Ruud have defeated each other twice.
Fans react to Casper Ruud’s victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas
Fans have started to troll Stefanos Tsitsipas brutally after his defeat against Casper Ruud in the semifinal. The last tournament he played was the 2024 Australian Open and even there, his performance was not on par, as he saw an early exit after losing out to Taylor Fritz in the very fourth round.
Check out some reactions below on the latest loss of Stefanos Tsitsipas:
Before that, he played in the ATP finals and lost both his matches before giving a walkover. Many fans suggested that Tsitsipas has to learn his fundamentals again and thus he needs a better coach. Some fans, on the other hand, went into full savage mode and wrote that the Greek is perhaps the worst out of all the top 10 players in the ATP rankings and that even his grandma has a better backhand.
Tsitsipas will probably shift his focus to the 2024 Indian Wells and Miami Open. He better up his performance there in order to shut the haters.
