The tennis world is shaken after Roger Federer announced his retirement from tennis after the conclusion of the 2022 Laver Cup where he’ll be a part of team Europe. The Swiss Maestro went through a number of surgeries and last played at the 2021 Wimbledon championship where he suffered a huge defeat to Hubert Hurkacz.
Legends like Andy Roddick, Billie Jean King, Rod Laver and Martina Navratilova have come forward with their well wishes after Federer announced the sad news. In an emotional letter, Federer revealed, “I am 41 years old, I’ve played more than 1500 matches over 24 years, tennis has treated me more generously than I ever would have dreamt, and now must recognise when it is time to end my competitive career. The Laver Cup next week in London will be my final ATP event. I will play more tennis in the future, of course, but just not in Grand Slams or on the tour.”

He said, “As many of you know, the past three years have presented me with challenges in the form of injuries and surgeries. I’ve worked hard to return to full competitive form.
