Novak Djokovic, the man of success, has revolutionized tennis throughout the years on the court. To the whole world, he portrays a comical man who is dedicated to his sport. However, interestingly, beneath that is the small part of him that believes in luck and superstitions.
In a recent interview ahead of his title defense at the Australian Open, the Serbian revealed that he takes a stroll at a nearby botanical garden and spends some alone time to clear his head before the start of the season.
Furthermore, as per the World No. 1 himself, he has been visiting the garden for the last 15 years and considers it a sign of good luck.
I do obviously like to visit certain places that have brought me luck and make me feel good. For example, botanical gardens just nearby, it’s a wonderful park where I like to spend time and just be by myself in nature, just grounding, hugging trees, climbing trees and stuff. I love to do that. So I’ve done that for, yeah, last 15 years.
Said Novak Djokovic to the Australian Open Press.
In addition to what he said, the Serbian revealed that he was channeling his inner child when at the botanical garden.
Other than just taking a stroll, the 37-year-old hugs and climbs trees to feel good at the end of the day and returns with a positive vibe.
Surprisingly, he is not the only one with a unique pre-match ritual. Another tennis pro Rafael Nadal is known for his iconic routines, which may seem weird, but they sure do work for the Spaniard.
Novak Djokovic gives positive feedback on wrist pain ahead of his title defense at Australia
Fans were left worried after Novak Djokovic complained of a wrist injury at the United Cup, which was a few weeks before the Australian Open.
The Serbian had complained of wrist pain during his time at the United Cup, which seemed to worsen during his match against Alex De Minaur.
He lost the match to mark his first loss of the year, and he also saw Serbia out of the United Cup. With proper rest given to the wrist, the Serbian will enter the tournament as World No. 1 and hope for another successful return, making it a hat-trick win at Australia.
With that being said, it seems like Djokovic is all set to begin his title defense on the first day of the tournament. Paired against Dino Prismic in the first round, the World No. 1 would hope to start the year with a high and one step forward to achieving his ‘Golden Slam’ goal.
Furthermore, the 37-year-old is on the verge of breaking more milestones if he manages to defend his title. With a record of 10-0 in the finals of Melbourne, the Serbian’s greatness cannot be explained in mere words.
Inching closer to winning 100 matches, Djokovic would be at a perfect 99 if he won in Brisbane, making his only 8 wins behind Roger Federer.
