Roberto Bautista Agut has blown hot and cold this season. He started with a third-round outing at the Australian Open and then won his maiden title of the season at Doha. An extended run of poor form continued till the end of the clay season. He then did well on the grass, reaching the quarterfinals at Halle and finishing runner-up at Mallorca. He then followed it up with a second title of the season at Kitzbuhel. He then underperformed in the North-American swing.

He is yet to drop a set this week at Basel. He eased past Laslo Djere in the first set before smashing Andy Murray in the Round of 16 in straight sets 6-3,6-2.

Stan Wawrinka returned from injury earlier this year on clay but hasn’t produced the results that were expected from him. It is assumed that he won’t reach anywhere close to his prime but still, he is improving with each passing day. He won his first match of the season at the Rome Masters and won just one match in the grass season. He didn’t win any match in the North American hardcourt Swing but bounced back to produce his best result of the season- a semifinal outing at the Moselle Open.

A string of poor runs continued before he stunned second seed, Casper Ruud, in the first round at Basel this week. He then defeated Brandon Nakashima to reach the quarterfinals.
