Mikael Ymer was disqualified from his round of 16 matches at the Lyon Open. The Swedish player faced the charge after he smashed his racquet at the umpire’s chair. The American player, Taylor Fritz, showed his support for the 24-year-old through his Twitter handle.

The World No. 53 played his round of 16 match against Arthur Fils at the Lyon Open. During the match, the Swedish player reached out to the chair umpire regarding a line call in the first set. This resulted in a heated argument between the two as the Portuguese umpire refused to leave his seat to check the ball mark. The 24-year-old cited that Fil’s shot was wide off the sideline and wanted a double-check from the officials.

However, the French player was awarded the point, and the match continued as usual. As Fil won the next point to lead the set 6-5, the Swedish player couldn’t hide his anger. Ymer went berserk and smashed his racquet into pieces at the feet of the chair umpire. These actions led to his immediate disqualification from the match.

While addressing the situation, Taylor Fritz expressed his opinion about the unexpected incident. The 25-year-old took to Twitter and stated that a bad bounce is never equal to a line hit. Fritz stated that he is not justifying the actions of the Swedish player, but the on-court call regarding the issue was not fully right.

” Not justifying the reaction at all but the amount of people that think a bad bounce = line hit is insane… crazy bounces happen all over the court and especially near lines,” he said. The World No.9 has reached the quarter-finals at the Geneva Open. He will be facing a challenge from the Belarussian player, Ilya Uladzimiravich Ivashka.

Fritz had earlier reached the semi-finals at the Monte-Carlo Masters but faced defeat at the hands of Andrey Rublev.

At the French Open last year, Taylor Fritz faced a tough loss after his second-round exit at the hands of Bernabe Zapata Miralles. Looking at this year’s clay performance, the 25-year-old delivered some quite satisfactory tennis on the surface. His fellow national, Andy Roddick, cited his belief in Fritz’s performance.

The World No. 9 started his clay campaign by reaching the semi-finals in Monte-Carlo but lost the match to Andrey Rublev. His second semi-final appearance at the Munich Open resulted in defeat at the hands of Botic van de Zandschulp. The American player went on to face early exits at both the Madrid and Rome Open.

In his conversation with Tennis Channel during Monte Carlo Masters, the 40-year-old said that Fritz has showed a great improvement in his overall playing style. He said that World No.9 has improved his results by making the necessary adjustments to his game. ” It feels like he is very clear in his mind of what he wants to do on the dirt itself,” Roddick said.

Fritz defeated fellow national Marcos Giron in the round of 16 match at the Geneva Open. He will be facing Ilya Uladzimiravich Ivashka for the spot in the semi-finals.
