American tennis ace Taylor Fritz is not pleased with the interpretation of his comments about player’s participation in the Olympics and the incentives attached to it. The World No. 10 has expressed disappointment over how the media portrayed his comments in bad taste. He also accused the tennis media of intentionally grabbing controversial quotes and ignoring explanations.

Taylor Fritz talked about introducing ranking points to the Olympics, just like how the United Cup rewards players with ranking points for the result of their individual matches. The American advocated for adding this extra incentive other than the opportunity to win a medal for the country.

However, his comments were taken in bad taste as Fritz was criticized for not getting enough motivation through the feeling of representing the country. This prompted a response from the player who clarified what he meant exactly. Fritz first laughed it out at the post that quoted the American. He claimed that reading the post really hurt him as it was put with no context of the questions asked.

Answers from 3 different questions all put together as one with no context of the questions, it literally hurts me to try and read this…. Makes it look like I can’t speak English
Taylor Fritz criticized the social media page.

He then went on to explain his comments. Fritz said that while he agrees with the fact that the honor of representing one’s country at the highest level is the biggest incentive for any player, he wants that there are no other tournaments scheduled during this period to avoid any clashes, just like it happens in other sports.

Also the part that’s cut out is the fact I said it’s fine if there’s no points, competing for your country is all the incentive you need but then there should not be other events 250’s/500’s coinciding… there’s not one sport where there are top level events going on during the Olympics.
Taylor Fritz explained his comments.

Pegula said that she could vouch for what her teammate was saying as she was also present in the conference room where the statement was made by Fritz.

I can vouch for you, I was there. This is horribly put together and really out of context. Lol
