Holger Rune and Taylor Fritz
Taylor Fritz went past Denis Shapovalov with ease in the second round of the Miami Open 2023. However, now he has to face the challenge of Holger Rune in his third round match. Although, the young Dane is quite inexperienced compared to the American tennis professional, he is known as one of the giant killers.
Hence, the current World No.10 needs to be wary of the enormous talent and the challenge he has on hand. However, he is excited to play him in the match. In an interaction with journalists, Fritz highlighted his willingness to play him.
“It’s going to be a tough match I think for a round of 16. Myself playing Holger is a very tough draw. I’m excited to play him. We’ve never played before. I’m not entirely I guess sure what to make of his game. Obviously he’s very good. I guess we’ll see. I guess we’ll see when we play,” he said.
Taylor Fritz could only reach till the fourth round of the Miami Open last time he participated in this tournament. However, this time he would like to improve his record in this competition on home turf and in front of the home crowd. Holger Rune too, would like to add another ATP Masters title to his name. Hence, this is expected to be a great match.

Taylor Fritz talks about Holger Rune before their much-awaited encounter
Holger Rune garnered media limelight when he defeated Novak Djokovic in the final of the Paris Masters 2022. Since then, his career has been on the ascendant. In the Miami Open, he defeated Diego Schwartzman in the second-round of 6-4, 6-2. He looked dominant throughout this match. Hence, he can posses great challenge for Taylor Fritz in this tournament.
This is the first time both the players will meet each other in a tennis tournament. However, they have practised with each other a few times. But he also admitted that he does not know much about the young Dane and his playing style.
“No, we’ve had some practices. Even when we practiced, I’m not kind of like overanalyzing his game. I don’t really watch much tennis at all outside of when I’m, I guess, watching someone I’m about to play, just when I’m kind of like in passing at tournaments. I’ve never really seen too much of Holger play, so I’m going to have to familiarize myself a bit. I’m sure I’ll learn a lot when I’m playing him,” he continued.
