World No. 12 Taylor Fritz had a small hiccup in reaching the fourth round at the 2024 Australian Open. Up against World No. 67 Fabian Marozsan in the third round, Fritz was surprised by the Hungarian who drew the first blood with a 6-3 win in the first set.
Amid this chaotic start, Fritz was offered a strange exchange from his box. The incident occurred during the third set, with the American leading 5-2. While the dialogue remained inaudible during the telecast, it was easy to decipher what was said.
Do you want my socks? He said
was the question that was asked to Fritz. The American however chose not to pay heed to it as he clinched the set in the very next game. Safe to assume, that no socks swapping took place either.
Fritz had an early wake-up call at the John Cain Arena and quickly recovered to level the score with a 6-4 win in the second set. After that, it was a routine wrap-up as he quickly finished the proceedings with back-to-back 6-2, 6-2 wins in the third and fourth sets.
The 2 hours and 14 minutes clash saw Fritz firing 19 aces to Marozsan’s 7. The Hungarian made 10 double faults to Fritz’s 2. The 12th seed was disciplined with 24 unforced errors to Marozsan’s 48, which certainly led to the final result, with Fritz advancing with 134 total points to 107 of the World No. 67.
A big battle awaits Taylor Fritz in the fourth round
Following the win over Marozsan, Fritz is now in the fourth round at Melbourne Park for the second time in his career. He made his fourth-round debut in 2022 but crashed out in the third round in 2023.

Awaiting him in the fourth round will be last year’s runner-up Stefanos Tsitsipas. The Greek hero did not break a sweat in his third-round clash at the Rod Laver Arena. Up against Luca Van Assche, the seventh seed cruised to a 6-3, 6-0, 6-4 victory.
Fritz and Stef will now go head-to-head for the fifth time with the Greek leading 3-1. Fritz’s solitary win came at the Monte Carlo Masters while Tsitsipas remained undefeated against the American in all of their hardcourt wins.
With both men known to thrive on the hardcourts and with a Grand Slam quarter-final on the line, in all certainty, it will be a clash to watch out for in the fourth round.
