With the start of the new year, the United Cup is here to kick off the new tennis season with a bang. So far in the tournament, it has been action-packed. Two big matches followed the schedule of the United Cup on Sunday. The world No. 1 Novak Djokovic clinched the win for Serbia, while Taylor Fritz and Jessica Pegula clinched a hard-fought win against Britain.

However, in an interesting turn of events, the commentator mistakenly called out Taylor Fritz as popular personality and pop star Taylor Swift, eliciting a wave of hilarious reactions among fans.

As expected, the incident went instantly viral on social media, with fans hilariously pointing out the similarities between them. Moreover, fans have identified similar events like this at the US Open, when Taylor Fritz was again called Taylor Swift by the commentators. It was a match between Fritz and tennis great Novak Djokovic.

Even though the commentators made a mistake calling out his name, Fritz didn’t make one in the match. The American was pretty spot-on after coming back from an injury.

Defending champions led by Taylor Fritz get off the mark in the United Cup

Jessica Pegula and Taylor Fritz fought hard to clinch the win for the United States. Great Britain posed a tough fight against them, and their confidence was high, especially after beating Australia.

After the win, World No. 5 opened up about the match in the post-match interview.

To get a win in this fashion after such a long day (on court) brings back a lot of memories. It was a big win today, especially after losing such a tough singles match.

Pegula lost earlier in the singles match, where he was disseminated 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 against Katie Boulter. However, Fritz kept the hopes alive for the USA after a win over Cameron Noorie, even with a thigh strain. Later on, in the mixed doubles match, Fitz and Pegula clinched the win. Making it 2-1 in favor of the USA.
