Tennis Australia is leaving no stone unturned to make the Australian Open 2023 a grand success. From the active top ranked tennis players, to legends and celebrities, everyone is on the list, to grace the Melbourne Park. A line-up of musical concerts and events are going to be organized during the Australian Open to entice the families and entertain spectators.

With them, organizers of the Australian Open are also trying to convince singer-composer Elton John to become the guest of honor for the Grand Slam event. Mr. John is in Australia and will be performing in Melbourne on January 14 and 15. However, the tournament will start on January 16 (Monday).

As reported by the Australian newspaper The Age, Tennis Australia approached American tennis legend Billie Jean King and good friend of Elton John, to convince him to pay a visit at Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne, on January 16 at the opening ceremony. However, everybody is waiting for his affirmation. The organizers of the Australian Open may have to keep a piano in the stadium if Elton John agrees at the last moment.

Tennis Australia is reeling under debt and losses. Hence, it is vital for the organizers for the first Grand Slam of the season to become a grand success.

Tennis Action at Australian Open 2023

The Australian Open qualifying rounds will begin on January 9, 2023. The qualifying rounds will be played until January 12. However, the main draw for the event will start on January 16, 2023. At the main draw, tennis fans will get the chance to witness the top-ranked players such as Rafael Nadal, Iga Swiatek, Novak Djokovic, Ons Jabeur, Casper Ruud, Jessica Pegula among others in action.

However, this time tennis fans can also watch their favorite players in action before the start of the main draw. The Australian Open organizers have decided to charge ticket prices from the spectators who flock to stadiums to watch qualifying round matches and practice matches.

The first Grand Slam of the season will also see both female and male doubles and wheelchair players in action. Joe Salisbury, Rajeev Ram, Sania Mirza, Rohan Bopanna, Barbora Krejcikova, Shingo Kuneida, and Gordon Reid among others are some popular names.

2022 Australian Open champion Ash Barty is also expected to grace the occasion alongside many tennis legends. Hence, this year’s Australian Open will be a great celebration of tennis for two weeks until January 29, 2023.
