Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, or Roger Federer, the debate about who is the GOAT has not been settled. And perhaps it never will. All three of them are the greatest tennis players in their own right. All 3 of them have varying arcs that made them the best tennis players of the modern era. There are many legacy matches between the three players that basically define their legacy.

Fans still argue about these legacy matches that made the three the greatest ones to exist. Though most of these matches had a combination of these three players, it’s tough to decide what makes one better than the other. One such moment was the 2022 Australia Open for Rafael Nadal when he created 2 records.

Nadal became the first man to reach 21 Grand slam titles in the Open Era and also achieved a Double career grand slam. Whereas 2021 was a year that was career-defining for Novak Djokovic when he won the first 3 grand slams of the year and was aiming for his Calendar Grand Slam by winning the US Open.

Recently tweets from the Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal fan camps rekindled the debate again. Now that Rafael Nadal has retired from the rest of 2023, Djokovic fans believe the Serb will go up to at least 3 more Grand Slam titles.

A hardcore Djokovic fan replied to the above tweet by talking about how Djokovic’s deportation led to Nadal reaching the 21st grand slam before anyone else.

Rafael Nadal’s fans stressed the point that Nadal became the greatest ever when he was the first to get to the 21st Grand Slam title win at the 2022 Australian Open and that had nothing to do with the fact that Djokovic was deported.

Sharing a wide spectrum of reactions online, here’s what fans have to say:

Many fans felt that Rafael Nadal was able to get the Double Career Grand Slam by winning the 2022 Australian Open only because Novak Djokovic was unjustly deported. Novak Djokovic had a career-defining moment when he was aiming for a Calendar Gran slam with the 2021 U.S. Open. But Daniil Medvedev was the force that forbid that from happening.

Djokovic detractors brought back the famous topic of the Deportation of the Serb, and how they felt it was justified.
