“Thank you, GOAT!” Coco Gauff pays her tribute to ‘inspiration’ Serena Williams as she retires from tennis after bowing out of the US Open

Serena Williams, the 40-year-old American professional is widely regarded as the greatest female tennis player of all time, with 23 grand slam titles to her name, Serena Williams is hugely credited with revolutionizing tennis for women all around the world as Williams has inspired a whole generation of players.
Competing at the US Open, Serena Williams announced that she will be retiring after playing the tournament at the Flushing Meadows. Much to people’s disappointment, Serena Williams was eliminated from the US Open after losing to Ajla Tomljanovic in the third round as she ends her career with an emotional farewell.

Serena Williams started off her US Open campaign with a bang, She beat Danka Kovinic in the first round and Anett Kontaveit in the second round but she, unfortunately, had to bow out of the tournament after losing to Ajla Tomljanovic in the third round. Serena received a huge reception from the crowd as she played the final match of her career.
American professional Coco Gauff, took to Twitter to pay her tribute to the retiring Williams. Gauff wrote, “Serena, THANK YOU. It is because of you I believe in this dream. The impact you’ve had on me goes beyond any words that can be put together and for that I say thank you, thank you, thank you, GOAT!”
Coco Gauff has successfully made it into the round of 16 stages of the US Open, she beat Leolia Jeanjean in the first round, Elena-Gabriela Ruse in the second round and compatriot Madison Keys in the third round of the tournament. She is scheduled to go up against Zhang Shuai in the round of the 16 fixture as Gauff will be looking to book her place into the quarter-finals of the US Open.
Serena’s dream to end her career with another major has been crushed but she can be very proud of the journey that she has covered throughout the years.
