“Thanks for a great schedule” Aryna Sabalenka blames the WTA scheduling for her loss at the San Diego Open

Tennis tournaments are always the most glittering sporting event. They attract lots of fans, media, and sponsors and fill the stadiums. With the spotlight comes revenue and profits for the organizers. Hence, both ATP and WTA organize these tournaments with a tight schedule to maximize profits.
But players, who are the biggest assets of the game, sometimes have to face the brunt. Many big players have become victims of this unfair practice by the authorities. In recent times, many have been vocal about it and criticized both ATP and WTA for their work.
In a similar incident, a match between Aryna Sabalenka and Donna Vekić was scheduled such that Sabalenka got very less time to recover after her Round of 16 matches against Sloane Stephens. As a result of which she could not play her quarter-final match against Vekić at her full potential.
The current world No.5 is currently participating in the San Diego Open. She won her match against Stephens 1-6 6-3 6-2 at 8.30 pm (Pacific Time Zone) on 14th October and had to play her quarter-final match against the Croatian in the semi-final at 11.30 am (Pacific Time Zone) the next day. In the semi-final match, World No.77 defeated her 6-4 7-6 6-1.
So, Sabalenka was very upset with the kind of scheduling done for her matches. She took to Instagram to show her displeasure.

Aryna Sabalenka this season
Aryna Sabalenka had a season filled with both highs and lows. She stormed into the quarter-final of the Australian Open but lost out to Kaia Kanepi in the fourth round. She then participated in the Qatar Open reaching the fourth round. She reached the final round of the Women’s Stuttgart Open but lost to Iga Swiatek. The next stop was Madrid Open. But she could not repeat her last year’s feat and exited in the second round itself.
At the Italian Open, Sabalenka lost to Swiatek again in the semi-final. In the French Open, too she could not do much and lost to Camila Giorgi in the third round. She reached the semi-final of the Cincinnati Open but lost to Caroline Garcia. At the US Open, Sabalenka managed to reach the semi-final round but lost out to Swiatek once again, who clinched her 2nd grand slam title this year.
She was looking good in the ongoing San Diego Open but crashed out after being defeated in the semi-final match. She is pointing her fingers at the unfair scheduling by WTA. It has to be seen what actions WTA takes to diffuse this situation.
