Carlos Alcaraz, the current Madrid Open champion, faced a daunting task on Friday as he took on Emil Ruusuvuori in an exhilarating match. However, the Spanish star rose to the challenge and secured his spot in the tournament’s third round with an impressive victory. The Spanish star, ranked second in the world and winner of the US Open, had to mount a comeback after losing the first set 2-6 to the 41st-ranked Finn. Alcaraz ultimately triumphed 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 in a match that lasted over two hours.

Reflecting on the hard-fought victory, Alcaraz admitted that he was in danger of losing the match at one point. “It was really challenging. I almost lost,” he said. The 19-year-old is known for his impressive wins over top players like Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, both of whom he defeated in Madrid last year.
