The International Tennis Federation (ITF) canceled the 2024 Hopman Cup to avoid a clash with the Paris Olympics. The mixed team tournament was usually played in July, but because of the Olympics taking place, the ITF took the sensible decision to postpone the tournament to the next year.
The prestigious event, set to take place in France at the end of July, will return in 2025. The tournament was named after Australian great Harry Hopman and was played every year ahead of the Australian Open. After 2019, the Hopman Cup was postponed to the middle of the year, but with the presence of the Olympics, which take place in France, the cup had to be postponed.
With both the Hopman Cup and Olympic Games due to take place in France this year, hitting pause on the Hopman Cup until 2025 is a sensible decisionreleased ITF in their statement
While the decision may disappoint the fans, it was taken keeping the Olympics in mind. As the Paris Olympics is regarded higher, it cannot be postponed, and the Hopman Cup had to compensate instead. Nonetheless, after some exciting showdowns last year, the fans will eagerly wait for 2025, and the next edition of the cup.
Tennis Calendar was full as the Hopman’s Cup had to be postponed to the next year, replaced by the Paris Olympics
The prestigious mixed team tournament, Hopman’s Cup was canceled by the ITF in view to avoid a clash with the Paris Olympics. Both tournaments take place in France when the tour heads to the European countries. However, with the Paris Olympics in play, the mixed-team tournament had to be canceled.
After last year’s brilliance shown by Croatia, the players were more ready than ever to win a tournament for their country. Instead of this, they get a bigger opportunity at the Olympics, to represent their country. While the tournament will be missed, its next season promises a better return, featuring the top stars and some exciting clashes.
Nonetheless, the team spirit will continue to burn brighter as the Olympics draw closer. Played in the patriotic grounds of France, the athletes will give it their all for a medal. Starting from the 27th of July, the players will play a two-week-long tournament not for themselves but for their respective countries.
