Rafael Nadal has had a great year as he won his 21st Grand Slam, the Australian Open 2022, then he took home the 2022 Mexican Open trophy. He was the finalist in the Indian Wells and then pulled out of the tour due to a rib injury. He returned to his favourite surface after the injury and his first destination was Madrid. Rafa lost in the quarterfinals to the eventual winner Carlos Alcaraz who prevented the el-classico from taking place. Instead, Alcaraz beat both Rafa and Djokovic on his way to the title.

The legends meet in the Italian Open 2022 and there is another chance of the clash between the gladiatirs in the semifinal. If they play their best tennis, they will battle it out in the semifinals before their departure for the French Open. Rafa would like to get back in top form to have a chance at a title in Rome and then at Roland-Garros. Djokovic has already started looking good to go. It would be a mouth-watering contest of they square off in Rome.
