This year’s Wimbledon favourites have been chosen by Daniil Medvedev. The World No. 1 landed in Mallorca to defend his title at the Mallorca Championships, an ATP 250 event hosted at Mallorca Country Club in Santa Ponca on the outdoor grass courts.

Medvedev spoke to Diario de Mallorca, a Spanish newspaper, shortly after arriving in Spain. He talked about how he fell in love with the island last year and how he hopes to return with his wife after the tournament this year. Despite the fact that he has yet to win a championship this year, Medvedev has advanced to the finals of three of the eight tournaments in which he has competed.

Due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February, the All England Lawn Tennis Club has barred Russian and Belarusian players from competing at SW19 this year. As a result, Daniil Medvedev will be unable to compete in the year’s third Major. However, Novak Djokovic, Matteo Berrettini, and Rafael Nadal are the Russian’s favourites to win the tournament.

“Novak is always the favourite. He has won the last three Wimbledons that have been played. He plays very well on grass. If we talk about the best players in history on grass, I would place him at the top, although I have not seen Borg or Sampras play. From my generation, Federer and Djokovic are the best. Of course, Nadal can win any tournament he plays in and Berrettini is playing at a high level. Speaking of favourites, Djokovic, Berrettini and Nadal,” Medvedev said.
