Iga Swiatek, the current world no.1, has the longest winning streak of 37 consecutive matches in the 21st century. The Polish player has won 2 French Opens and the 2022 US Open. Swiatek is the first Polish player to win a major singles title. The 21-year-old is still relatively new to the sport and its associated business side.
The three-time Grand Slam champion said she is still new to tennis and business. She emphasised the importance of maintaining a balance between the sport and the off-court side of tennis. It is necessary, according to Swiatek, to focus on the business part too as it ‘enables’ her to play tennis and provides a sense of security.
After winning two major titles and a record-breaking win streak, Swiatek rose to the top of the rankings. With such achievements, she also felt a sense of responsibility. “After winning my first Roland-Garros title, I needed to learn how to operate when I have not only sports but business responsibilities, too,” she says.
The Pole also elaborated on how she built a team of trustworthy people. She credited the team for helping her learn the mechanisms of off-court responsibilities such as interviews, press conferences, and photoshoots. “Tennis is a foundation of everything, and we all need to be on the same page,” she says. “The business side works well when the sports side is balanced and stable. This is our motto.”
Swiatek said they are not trying to ‘rush’ to get as many sponsors as possible. After a successful 2022, the star wants to focus on creating a happy and balanced life. Doing everything step-by-step on and off-court is essential for the player.
Iga Swiatek reveals details about her experiences with Asics
Swiatek has utilised her solid on-court performance to help create her own equipment, including the unique frame from the French racket maker, Tecnifibre and her clothing and footwear with the Japanese company Asics. “I’m fully involved because sports apparel is one of the most important things in my work,” Swiatek said.
Prior to the Billie Jean King Cup, the Pole shared how she tested shoes for the next season with the Asics team. “After the practice, I shared my feedback with them and they applied my comments,” she says. “This is great because I feel Asics is really keen on taking care of my needs regarding my clothes and shoes.”
