Roger Federer has a reputation of not being involved in many controversies during his playing career. The Swiss maestro played his farewell match at Laver Cup 2022, where he paired up alongside Rafael Nadal for a Doubles encounter.

Back in 2015, Roger Federer unintentionally risked the wrath of angry Pakistani fans after posting a picture with the Indian jersey. The post was originally meant for a marketing photoshoot for the 2015 ICC World Cup, where the tennis legend is seen admiring the Indian jersey and looks keen to support the Blues.

However, this did not go down well with Pakistani fans, who were triggered by the sequence of events. In response, Roger Federer steadied the ship by issuing an apology and clarifying his stance on the same.

It was more of a Nike thing to be quite honest,” said the Swiss star on the eve of the Dubai Open. It was a Nike campaign they had because I met some of the Indian players and I had just spent some time in India so they presented the shirt to me,” said Federer.

Roger Federer had also revealed that he supports South Africa, as his mother belongs from the country. The Roger Federer Foundation has also done a lot of social work in South Africa over the years to help the unprivileged.

I support South Africa, and everybody knows that. The idea wasn’t to spark any fire and I’m sorry if it did that,” he had added.

Roger Federer admitted to supporting the Indian Cricket Team a bit, but that depends on what part of the world he is in. “When I’m in America definitely not. When I’m in Europe definitely not. But then when I’m in Australia and here (in the UAE) a little bit sometimes. So it really depends where I am in the world which sport I follow,” he added.

Roger Federer and ‘Master Blaster’ Sachin Tendulkar have met a couple of times over the years at Wimbledon. The latter is also a huge fan of the tennis legend.

Roger Federer has always avoided controversies in his playing career, and he took the right path by issuing a clarification to the Pakistani fans for his media activities.
