In what will be marked as a sad day in the history of tennis, former World No. 1 and 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer has announced his retirement from the sport. Roger took to his social media handles to deliver the heartbreaking news to his millions of fans.

Having turned Pro back in 1998, Roger went on to break numerous records, some of which still stand to date and revolutionised the sport. Roger was the first ATP player to break the 300 weeks at World No.1 record and also the first to 20 majors in what will remain one of the most brilliant careers of tennis.

Federer in his retirement message announced that the upcoming 2022 Laver Cup will be the final tournament on the ATP Tour for him. He has however promised to continue playing hinting at a possible return in invitational or exhibition matches but no more as a Pro.

Federer’s retirement news was nothing short of ‘breaking the internet’ news as fans poured in tributes to the Swiss great who will always remain in contention to be called the GOAT and his massive trophy cabinet and ocean of fans will continue to defend him in the ever-lasting debate.
