“The results will come” Carlos Alcaraz sends a warning to opponents as he advances into the 3rd round at Wimbledon 2022
Carlos Alcaraz
World No. 7 and the 5th seed at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships, Carlos Alcaraz reaches the third round at the Grand Slam for the first time having lost in the second round last year to then World No. 2 Daniil Medvedev. This time, however, being a seed, he got the best use of his ranking and justified the seeding after a 6-4, 7-6(0), 6-3 win over Tallon Griekspoor.
Alcaraz was taken the distance in the first round by Jan-Lennard Struff but the Spaniard looked in better control during the second-round match. The teenager has had a fantastic season so far having a 100% win rate when he has won the first set in the match, a feat that he has accomplished in 28 matches this season from the 38 matches that he has played.
“I felt more comfortable”: Carlos Alcaraz
The Spaniard had not played on the Tour in the build-up for the Grand Slam and was coming straight from his quarter-final defeat at the 2022 French Open. The lack of match practice was visible in the first round where he was on the ropes against Struff. Griekspoor however could not create a similar situation as Alcaraz took the charge from the start itself and did not allow the Dutchman to make a comeback in the match.
“I felt more comfortable today than in the first round but usually, I say I need more hours on the court on the grass to feel more comfortable. It’s amazing to get into the third round for the first time here in Wimbledon. I enjoyed playing here a lot in front of a great crowd, with great energy. I’m really happy. Today, I would say, I was myself playing drops shots, going to the net and everything is going well. I think for the next rounds I will be the same, playing drop shots and hopefully you enjoy that.
“Of course, I’m enjoying my tennis, I love playing tennis. I have enjoyed every single second that I’ve been on the court from the beginning of the year until now and will continue to enjoy my tennis. The results will come with it, you know. Obviously playing like that, beating the best tennis players in the world, that’s a dream for me,” said Alcaraz speaking in his post-match press conference as he will now take on Oscar Otte for a place in the fourth round.
