“She is great but it’s debatable” Chris Russo candidly denies Serena Williams as the greatest player in the GOAT debate

Serena Williams and Chris Russo
Serena Williams, former World number 1, will be last seen in action at the US Open which will be the last Grand Slam tournament of her illustrious and glorious career of more than two decades. She will face the young British player Emma Raducanu in the first round at the Cincinnati Open and the American is looking forward to enjoying her last few matches. She also couldn’t go past the second round at the Canadian Open where she lost to Belinda Bencic in straight sets.
She had made her return to the court at the 2022 Wimbledon Championship but her journey was short-lived as the American got eliminated in the first round. Even though she is looking for a win, she will be hopeful of ending her career on a high by probably becoming the US Open champion. She has proved her dominance over the years and played a major role in revolutionizing women’s tennis all around the world. With 23-Grand Slam singles titles, she is the record holder of the most singles titles in the Open era and is just one behind equalling Margaret Court‘s record for the most number of singles Grand Slam titles.
“She has never played against a Top 10 player in historical purposes” Chris Russo on Serena Williams

During a recent interview, Chris Russo who is a sports radio personality shed some light on the GOAT debate in women’s tennis where he believes Serena Williams, even though is a great player but not the greatest as she did not have any rivalries against all-time top-10 players. He added that “Serena, in this period of her dominance which has been remarkable, there has never been a top 10 player in historical purposes who she has gone up against. Venus is not a top-10 all-time player. Serena is great and it’s debatable. Do you want to put her number 1? You can debate it and no problem“
He considers Martina Navratilova over Williams as the all-time greatest as the Czech-American player had to regularly compete against the likes of Steffi Graf, Monica Seles, and many others, all of whom are among the best players ever. He added “Her period of tennis in the 80s, in my opinion, from a women’s tennis standpoint, was much deeper and much better than who Serena’s been able to beat in the last 20 years. Based on the fact that in Martina’s era, she had to deal with Graf, Seles, (Hana) Mandlikova, Austin, and Chrissy (Evert). Chrissy, Seles, and Graf are three of the top five or six players in the history of women’s tennis.“
