“There’s always going to be a tennis dad in there,” Dan Evans fires shots toward Stefanos Tsitsipas and his father Apostolos over the upcoming Netflix series ‘Break Point’

Dan Evans, former British No. 1 and currently ranked 27th in the world, has been quite vocal and critical lately. The Briton had a mediocre season this year as he failed to reach any final this season. He started the season ranked 25th and despite a drop to the 40th spot, he finished inside the Top-30 once again.
Evans is currently in Scotland preparing for the ‘Battle of the Brits‘, an event created by Andy Murray‘s elder brother Jamie. The competition will see team Scotland take on team England in the exhibition event. The two-day event is looked upon as means to promote tennis in Scotland where no good player has emerged since the Murray brothers.
With Netflix releasing the teaser of the upcoming docu-series ‘Break Point’, a lot of excitement has risen among tennis fans. The show has been created by the same team that brought F1: Drive to Survive. Break Point will give a better insight into the lives of players on the Tour. For Evans however, the show holds no value. The Briton was critical of the show and more importantly of Stefanos Tsitsipas and his father Apostolos.
“You could have hand-picked who they were going to choose. It is so predictable. You want to hear what Rafa has got to say when he had to pull out of Wimbledon. We’ll have to listen to Tsitsipas and a tennis dad (Apostolos Tsitsipas). There’s always going to be a tennis dad in there, isn’t there? It’s not for me. It’s all acted, you can see it. Come on,” said Evans calling Break Point a charade while speaking to the press in Scotland.
Stefanos Tsitsipas and Dan Evans’ rivalry
While Evans can certainly have his own opinion, his attack on the Tsitsipas family comes out rather strange. But given Evans is currently on a spree of dishing out blatant criticism, the shock value is less. Evans had openly criticized Leon Smith, British Davis Cup captain, recently for his decisions at this year’s Davis Cup and asked Smith to take some accountability for Britain’s loss.
Coming back to Tsitsipas, Evans’ comments could come from the small rivalry the two have that’s been dominated by the Greek. The two have met a total of four times on the Tour and Evans has failed to win a single set, let alone a match against Tsitsipas. The duo clashed once this year, in the second round of the 2022 Paris Masters.
