Elena Rybakina who was born on 17th June 1999, is a Russian-born Kazakhstani professional tennis player. She made history after winning the women’s singles championship in Wimbledon 2022. Elena is the first Kazakh player to win a major title, however, she formerly represented her country of birth, Russia, but has represented Kazakhstan since 2018.
Rybakina defeated the in-form Tunisian, Ons Jabeur 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. The Tunisian was caught in the crosshairs of the destructive attacks from the Russian-born Kazakh who hammered her with strong serves and forehands to become the youngest Wimbledon champion at the age of 23 since 2011 when Petra Kvitová of the Czech republic clinched the same title at the age of 21.

Elena Rybakina was born in Moscow, Russia, to her parents. She and her elder sister began participating in sports at a young age, originally focusing on gymnastics and ice skating. Her father, however, advised her to switch to tennis after finding she was too tall to pursue a professional career in either of those sports. As a result, she began playing tennis at the age of six.
After winning the title, Elen Rybakina was asked about how her parents would be feeling right now to which she replied emotionally, that “they would be super proud”.
Elena who came to Wimbledon as an underdog has now lifted the silverware and responded to her victory with muted celebrations, waving to the crowd with a smile.
