Novak Djokovic, regarded as one of the greatest players in the world, recently won his 7th Wimbledon title and 21st Grand Slam title overall defeating Nick Kyrgios in a thriller four-set match. He has a 28-match winning streak at the All England Club and is undefeated for the last four years which shows what a champion he is on the grass court. He is just one Grand Slam title away from the Spaniard, who holds the record for most singles Grand Slam titles in the Open era.
Even after all that he has achieved in his illustrious career, Novak has been dealing with a lot of altercations at the beginning of this year and it seems like a non-ending affair. His ‘unvaccinated’ status led to his deportation from the Australian Open which he had never thought of in his wildest dreams. He was criticized a lot for not yet taking the vaccination even though he will have to miss the upcoming Grand Slam event, the US Open 2022 as the US Government will allow players to enter the country only if they are vaccinated.

Goran Ivanisevic, coach of the Serbian since 2019, stands in support of the player and feels Djokovic and his team were ill-treated in the last two years and it is simply an offense to call the champion the leader of the anti-vaccination people. He said ” I respect and appreciate him, he made a decision that he will not change. When they proclaim him to be a leader, to have a bad influence on people, that is wrong. He doesn’t want to get vaccinated, he doesn’t want to introduce it into his body, and he never told others not to get vaccinated. I respect and support his decision. “
Upon asking about the chances of participation at the US Open, he further said “I am more optimistic that I will get an invitation and win Umag than that they will let him to the US Open. I don’t know about the US Open, it’s difficult. They don’t ask for vaccination there, but as a country, they are closed to the unvaccinated, for now, he can’t enter the country.”
He feels that Djokovic and his team deserved better treatment in the last two years as it left them to deal with a lot of emotional pain, apart from the professional hindrances.
